Full page photoFull page photoThe torch relay began October 9th, 2010 at the Temple of Heaven. This starting point at Beijing’s marvelous location is known as a holy place where ancient Chinese emperors worshiped the heavens for plentiful harvest and prosperity.

The relay will progress across 21 cities concluding in Guangzhou on November 12th for the opening ceremony of the 2010 Asian Games. There the torch will light the cauldron signifying, let the games begin!

A group of foreigners were selected to participate in the memorable event. The Asian Games honored Mr. Clapham, Director of ACT Global Sports, by inviting him to carry the Asian Games Torch during its relay.

Chris Clapham was honored to be selected as a torch bearer on behalf of synthetic turf company ACT Global Sports. Chris mentions, “As a foreigner, I’m very proud and privileged to carry the Asian Games torch.”

Clapham passed the torch proudly during the Chaozhou part of the relay. From there it will travel through 12 more stops before making the torch’s final destination at the Asian Games cauldron in Guangzhou.

“I fly frequently between China and England. The torch will remind me of the importance of Chinese sports and the business market,” he told China Daily.

ACT Global Sports was also selected as the provider of hockey surfacing for the 2010 Asian Games. The field hockey events feature many teams with high FIH ranking, in both the men’s and women’s competition. For more information click to read the press release.

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) welcomes ACT Global Sports as its latest supplier of synthetic turf approved for world level hockey.

To be approved, a turf must be tested by an independent FIH accredited laboratory in this case ISA-Sport in the Netherlands. The tests have shown that ACT Global Xtreme Turf NFH-12 meets the highest level of FIH performance requirements and so can be used for all hockey including top international matches – FIH’s global standard for World Level Events.

Xtreme Turf NFH-12 uses the latest ‘Dual Yarn’ technology of polyethylene and nylon monofilament fibres. This ensures high playability but also brings environmental benefits because, in comparison with some other turfs, less water is required on the surface to achieve excellent playability.

ACT Global has its main research and production facilities in China with head offices located in USA and regional offices in the Netherlands, Cyprus, Hong Kong and South Africa. For more information, please visit www.actglobalsports.com.
