Synthetic Turf Maintenance Guidelines

synthetic_turf_maintenance

To maximize the appearance, performance and longevity of your synthetic turf surface, maintenance is essential.

To provide direction on this important issue, the Synthetic Turf Council has released new, improved guidelines that meet the requirements of today’s artificial turf systems. The STC states four key areas that drive the need for objective synthetic turf maintenance guidelines:

1. Maximize the appearance and longevity of your synthetic turf—Improperly maintained fields will degrade faster and compromise playing conditions.

2. Ensure maximum performance and playability—Through a combination of regular maintenance and performance testing, it is possible to track the synthetic sports field’s performance and anticipate the end of its useful life.

3. Address field usage topics and special circumstances—Factors such as age, hours of use, type of usage, climate, contamination and other situations impact the performance of the synthetic turf.

4. Meet your field’s warranty requirements—While a maintenance regimen can support the requirements of a warranty, the details of a maintenance plan should be carefully reviewed with the field builder to assure that it complies with and does not void any provisions of the warranty.

Ongoing routine maintenance can include keeping the playing surface free of debris, maintaining proper infill levels, and brushing the turf. More specialized maintenance may include decompaction, seam repairs and cleaning of the infill. These comprehensive guidelines discuss all aspects of maintenance from proper cleaning materials, to equipment and techniques, so you can keep your field in top performing condition.

LiteEarth™ Capping System Launches, Featuring Act Global Turf

LiteEarth Product

LiteEarth Product

A new, patent pending capping system called LiteEarth launched at the international Waterproof Membranes Conference in Dusseldorf, Germany.  The system features a single-ply composite of synthetic grass fused with EPDM geomembrane to produce a one of a kind product for a wide range of permanent closures.

LiteEarth features high-quality synthetic grass manufactured by Act Global. The turf provides a natural looking surface, and is more aesthetically pleasing than exposed membrane or natural grass that is not well-maintained. It also eliminates the use of costly and environmentally damaging fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides and mower exhausts required for natural grass maintenance.

The LiteEarth system provides long-term protection that is impermeable to air, gas and water, at a fraction of the cost of traditional natural grass capping. Comparatively, LiteEarth can save hundreds of thousands of dollars per acre over 30 years, by reducing materials, labor, maintenance and installation costs. LiteEarth can also save more than 400,000 pounds of CO2 per acre.

Act Global Sports Advances Synthetic Turf Market in Colombia with Two New FIFA Certified Fields

ActGlobal_UniversidadAntioquia_syntheticturf Austin, Texas USA (January 8, 2013) — Act Global Sports continues to promote superior synthetic turf sports surfaces throughout the world, most recently achieving two FIFA certified installations in Colombia.

The fields are a result of quality manufacturing of Act Global and skilled installation work of Colombian partner Pedro Sarmiento and his team. The pitches were installed at the Universidad de Antioquia in Medellín and at Sede Recreacional Florida Blanca in Bucaramanga. The fields received a two and one star certification, respectively. Both feature Act Global’s Xtreme Turf for community and professional sports use.

“We are honored to work with a trusted and talented partner that can help bring these FIFA certified fields to Colombia,” said John Baize, managing director of Act Global Sports. “We truly value the work of Pedro and his team, as more players can enjoy the long-term value of quality products and professional installations.”

The field at Universidad de Antioquia is part of one of the biggest and most important universities in Colombia. It will host local league competition matches and the university’s regional tournament, as well as training grounds for professional teams. The field is part of a larger sports facility investment by the university, which will include basketball, handball, futsal, volleyball, martial arts, gymnastics and more. Act Global’s partner will install all these surfaces, making it one of the most complete sport references in Colombia featuring the Xtreme Turf FIFA certified field.

Sede Recreacional Florida Blanca is part of the social services recreational and sport complex of Santander State. The field was funded by Comfenalco Santander, a retirement plan administrator in Colombia, to stimulate sport activities amongst its members. The field will be used by members and several amateur clubs, as well as for hosting local league matches. This complex is one of only two complexes of this kind to have a full size artificial turf field. The new pitch replaces an old natural grass, and is beside a previously installed Xtreme Turf field.

FIFA testing on both fields was performed by Labosport, and results showed excellent permeability, shock absorption and stability. As a FIFA Preferred Producer for Football Turf, Act Global’s products are engineered to meet the highest quality and performance standards. The company’s Xtreme Turf has been installed in many top-performing professional stadiums around the world.

Act Global Sports to feature BASF in its new XtremeLok Technology to Enhance Synthetic Turf Durability

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: AUSTIN, TX

Proprietary coating application adds resilience and extends useful life of synthetic turf.

Austin, Texas USA (November 5, 2012) — Act Global Sports, a synthetic turf manufacturer with installations in 70 countries, has selected innovative components from BASF to offer a proprietary secondary coating application XtremeLok that will improve tuft bind and increase the life of their artificial turf system.

The technology enhancement improves the locking of the grass fibers into the turf backing, referred to as tuft bind, a result of continued research, development and comparison testing across varying coating technologies. The benefits of XtremeLok are improved quality, durability and longevity of the turf.

John Baize, director at Act Global, said he is pleased with the pace in which the company is introducing leading technologies into the synthetic turf market. “This product enhancement continues our position as a technology and performance-focused firm,” said Baize. “Act Global is committed to investing in scientific testing to produce high-quality products to ensure our turf systems can withstand years of all-weather and intense use.”

The XtremeLok coating has already been utilized in Act Global’s 1.4 million square foot installation at the United States Air Force Academy runways as well as the Highland Heritage Park in Douglas County, Colorado.  The results have met the stringent U.S. Air Force Academy requirements and the Highland project achieved a tuft bind of 12.75 pounds (56.7N). The product feature is now available to all sports, aviation and landscaping customers who require tier-one quality.

Both Act Global and BASF are committed to promoting social responsibility. Act Global has been a member of the United Nations Global Compact for seven years, and BASF is a founding member.  Synthetic turf for many years has been associated with a number of social benefits through increased opportunities for physical activity and participation in sports. However, as drought conditions continue to strain the availability of clean drinking water, the need for water conservation increases. The Synthetic Turf Council estimates between three to six billion gallons of water are conserved annually from the use of synthetic turf.

Act Global Sports Achieves FIFA Two Star Certification with Advanced Woven Turf System

WovenFIFAfield1

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: AUSTIN, TX

New woven synthetic turf football pitch gets FIFA two star certification. Surface provides superior playability, excellent ball roll characteristics and pile resilience.

Aalten, Netherlands (October 23, 2012)– Act Global Sports, a world leader in synthetic turf manufacturing, received a FIFA two star certification at MOSIR – Aleksandrów Łódzk stadium in Poland, featuring the company’s advanced woven turf system. This new generation of turf offers a superior playing surface for athletes.

The football pitch is home to the Municipal Sport Center team. The client opted for Act Global’s Xtreme Turf WX50 system due to its quality, durability and top performance qualities.

One of the key features of WX50 is the resiliency of the pile. The fibers do not have the pile direction of a typical tufted product and stand up straight before any infill is applied. The distinctive woven technique results in excellent tuft lock, high water permeability and very consistent ball roll. In addition, the product has no PU or SB latex coating, and therefore offers better opportunities for recycling and sustainability.

“This is an exciting achievement for Act Global, and for facilities looking for top playing surfaces. We will continue to offer the latest generation of turf to our customers, and work with trusted partners, to complete installations that meet professional performance standards,” said Zlotnicki. “We look forward to introducing our woven system to new markets in Europe and around the world.”

As the synthetic turf market advances, Act Global is committed to staying at the forefront of technology and product development. They are a FIFA Preferred Producer of Football Turf, with installations in 70 countries, and a total of 58 FIFA certified fields.

Memorable Match at Galabank Stadium

footballturf

*photo from dailymail.co.uk

Our European Sales Manager recently attended a match between Annan Athletic and the Rangers at the Galabank Stadium, Scotland, with installation partner WH Malcoms. This link will take you to the match report. The game drew a record crowd to Galabank Stadium, and was one of the biggest and the most significant days in the Club’s history.

The Annan Club is run by volunteers from top to bottom. Their delight at having these new facilities and the bonus of having Rangers visit was plain to see. This is a perfect example of what a football club at this level should be about. Quality facilities that meet the needs of the local community and that can provide an income that is sustainable.

Act Global is proud to have been a part of this project. With our installation partner, we took on a site that was run down—the pitch was around 2m higher from one end to the other and had a hump all the way down the middle! Act Global supplied the turf, and Malcolms put in the pitch and some small concrete terraces. They did this in less than 10 weeks from the end of the old season and the start of the new.

As we carry on our business, we perhaps don’t often get an appreciation of what impact our work has on real people. For many of the people at Annan Athletic, Saturday was a day they will never forget, primarily because they were playing Rangers, but a big part of their pride was tied up in the facilities that they were able to offer. The directors made it quite clear that the pitch was an important part of that.
